Originally built for Martin Marietta Corp, which gave the two "wing-like" buildings their form. Purchased from MM by Stearns-Roger, a Denver-based Engineering & Construction firm. Stearns built the elevated walkway between the two buildings. But because the Engineers were all Industrial-design experienced, as opposed to office or commercial, the elevated walkway is wayyy structurally overbuilt. Realising the structural capacity of the walkway, Stearns personnel chose to store heavy paper supplies and files in the walkway that was infrequently used. The walkway was frequently nearly impassible due to the voluime of paper stored in the walkway.
As growth came, the company built the adjoining 11-story tower at 5250 So. Cherry Creek Drive, since they owned the entire block of property. They also built the 4-story building fronting Cherry Creek drive as their engineering projects grew immensely and required more space. The complex was sold when Air Products bought the firm. Buildings are now multi-tennent, but mostly used by State of Colorado for office space.
