Constructed in 1890, the original address of 2927 West 28th Avenue was 616 Garnet. Its first owner was Frederick M. Dille, who purchased the home in 1892 and lived there with his wife Ida and two daughters until 1917.
Dille was employed as a bookkeeper before beginning work for the US Biological Survey, now known as the Fish and Wildlife Service. While with the Survey, he was in charge of bison and big game at the Niobrara Reservation in Nebraska and the Wind Cave National Game Preserve in South Dakota. In 1913, Dille oversaw the transport of bison from the New York Biological Society to Wind Cave in an effort to reintroduce the species to the newly created nature preserve.
Dille was an avid photographer and bird-watcher, whose work was published in several ornithology publications.
