An 1892 building permit (#1681) lists John Duthie as owner, David Duff Seerie as builder, and John J. Huddart as architect. Duthie is listed in city directories at 2155 High Street, just north of 2149 High. The two residences share many features, including recessed gable arches, similar stone surrounds on the main front facade window on each building, and similar patterned brick around the foundation. It is possible that both buildings were designed by Huddart and built by Seerie.
Seerie worked as a stonecutter before forming a construction company with William F. Geddis in 1885. Geddis & Seerie was responsible for the construction of several of Colorado’s most prominent buildings, including the Colorado State Capitol, the Brown Palace Hotel, and Trinity Methodist Episcopal church. Architect Huddart designed several Denver landmarks, including Huddart Terrace (1890), the Cresswell Mansion (1889), Fire Station No. 15 (1903), and Edison Elementary School (1925).
Earl W. Mann, who served five consecutive terms in the Colorado House of Representatives, lived here from 1943 until his death in 1969. He was an active member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. He was also an editorial columnist for the Colorado Statesman and the Denver Post. Earl Mann was inducted in the Colorado Black Hall of Fame in 1973.
