According to Denver assessor records, 741 E. 10th Avenue was built in 1902. Building permit #1278, dated October 2nd, 1902, confirms that date. The owner on the permit is listed as Georgia L. Stuchfield, with Marean & Norton as architects and John N. Proctor as builder. During their forty-year partnership, architects Willis Marean and Albert J. Norton designed numerous residences and commercial and public buildings. Among their most notable are the National Register-listed Denver Orphan’s Home at 1501 Albion Street, Denver landmark Cheesman Park Pavilion, and the Colorado governor’s mansion at 400 E. 8th Avenue. Many permits of this time list Proctor as builder.
Owner Georgia Stuchfield purchased lots 9, 10, and the south half of lot 8 in 1899. Born in 1855 in Ohio, she was married to Harry Stuchfield, a hardware merchant at Kent & Stuchfield. The house appears to have been built for investment purposes, as the Stuchfields never lived there.
