936 E. 12th Avenue was built in 1910 for insurance agent William B. Dunaway. The home was designed by architect Glen W. Huntington. William Dunaway was born in Illinois in 1859, and first appears in Denver city directories in 1905. Dunaway lived at 936 E. 12th Avenue along with his wife Emma and children Dorothy and Carter. Emma died in 1913, and sometime prior to 1920 William married his second wife Kate. He sold the property in 1925.93
Architect Huntington designed a number of historically designated buildings during his career, including Denver landmark Fire Station No. 7, Boulder landmark Jacob VanEk-Eve Drewlowe House, the National Register-listed Arcanum Apartments, and a number of residences in Denver landmark districts.
