Cordova Apartments

Printer-friendly version

The Cordova Apartments at 1050 Washington Street were constructed in 1930 under permit #2511. The owner of the property at time of construction was Aaron Forer, and the cost of construction was listed as $65,000. Although the permit does not list the architect, other documents show it was designed by the architectural firm of Ireland & Parr. Frederick W. Ireland, Jr., architect, and Elza W. Parr, engineer, practiced in Denver from 1926 through 1932.  The Cordova is a good example of the firm’s facility with Spanish Colonial Revival style design, which can also be seen in other of their designs, including the nearby Gardenia apartments at 1275 Washington Street.  The Cordova was the first of three planned apartment buildings to be designed by Ireland & Parr and constructed on lots 1 to 10 of block 96 of Porters Addition. The second apartment building, the Rexford at 1060 Washington Street, was built in 1930 to the north of the Cordova. The third building, slated to be constructed to the north of 1060 Washington Street, was never built.
