1341 and 1351 Washington Street were built in 1925. Permit #503 indicates that the property owner was Emma Howard, and that Brendle-Brent Construction Company was the contractor for the project which cost $30,000. The apartment houses were known as the Homewood Apartments, and later as the Martin Buffet Apartments. A 1925 Denver Post article notes that the architect for both buildings was G. Meredith Musick. It is noteworthy that the Homewood Apartment building’s architectural design was repeated the following year in Musick’s design for The Arnold Apartments at 1235 Washington, although no connection between Emma Howard and the original owner of The Arnold, Samuel Schlessinger, was revealed in the course of research.
