1126 Clarkson was built, likely “on spec,” in 1901 by the Fleming Brothers construction firm under permit #86 for $3500. The original building permit was filed under owner D. Carson Fleming, one of four brothers who made up the company.  The architects are listed as Fisher and Huntington. The Fleming Brothers were prolific builders in Denver in the 1880s and into the early 1900s. Jesse Fleming moved to Denver from western Pennsylvania in 1884, following his cousin real estate developer James A. Fleming to the city. In 1886 Jesse's brothers Calvin, D. Carson and Patrick joined him. The brothers operated a lumber yard by 1886, and built a number of the homes and commercial buildings in the area surrounding 1st Avenue and Broadway. Notable buildings constructed by the Flemings are their own Fleming Brothers Building at 70-74 Broadway and the 1st Avenue Hotel at 101 Broadway, designed by architect Charles Quayle. The brothers ran their real estate and financial services businesses out of the hotel.
