This stately Gaylord Street home in City Park West was built on spec in 1912 by contractor Swan Oscar Thorell. The residence was purchased a year later by Nellie Shwayder. Born c.1886 in Russia, Nellie lived in the Gaylord Street home from 1914 through 1921 with her husband, Jesse, and three children. Jesse Shwayder and the Shwayder family made a lasting impact in luggage manufacturing when they started the Shwayder Trunk Manufacturing Company in Denver, later to be known as Samsonite. The home was owned by members of the Shwayder family until 1947.
