2211 Vine St.

Printer-friendly version

2211 Vine Street was built in 1901 by real estate developers Adolph Jarmuth and Thomas Harrison. The pair also built the house next door at 2215 Vine Street under the same building permit (#1153, 1900). Jarmuth and his wife Ethel were the original occupants of the home, living there until 1903. The Jarmuths had a highly-publicized divorce that year.

In 1904, ownership of the home was transferred to Charles H. Curtis, who had just become the husband of the former Ethel Jarmuth. The marriage was featured in newspapers across the country because of the couple’s prior relationship; Charles was the father-in-law of Ethel’s sister. Charles Curtis, the president of the Curtis Coal Mining Company, was born in Pennsylvania in 1850. The couple lived in Colorado Springs, but used 2211 Vine as an investment property during their ownership.
