2225 Vine Street was built in 1901 for A. J. Cook (Annie Josephine Cook), wife of grain merchant John W. Cook. The Cooks were married in Atchison, Kansas in 1890, and moved to Denver soon after. John Cook served as the secretary and treasurer of the Westman Commission Company, a dealer in grains. The Cooks lived at 2225 Vine Street until 1920. The house was designed by architect John J. Huddart. Huddart served as chief draftsman in the offices of Denver architect Frank Edbrooke before opening his own practice in 1887. Other notable buildings designed by Huddart include three Denver landmarks, Huddart Terrace (1890), Fire Station No. 15 (1903), and Edison Elementary School (1925).
