This duplex in the Jefferson Park neighborhood is actually two residences: 2625 and 2627 West 27th Aveue. It was built in 1929 and owned by Albert and Maude Blakeslee until 1945. The Blakeslees lived around the corner on Clay Street. Albert worked as an inspector for the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad. The Blakeslees rented to working-class tenants, including a candy maker, a JC Penny store manager and a boilermaker.
The next long-term owners were John and Mary Popovich of Indiana and Pueblo, respectively. John managed the Slovenian Home Tavern for 50 years. The couple resided in one side of the duplex from 1946 until their passing in 2007. They too rented the other side of the duplex to working-class tenants, such as a salesman and an inspector for the US Bureau of Mines.
