This two-story brick duplex was built in 1908 for Otto W. Laase. Laase and his wife Lizzie lived in the 2826 side of the duplex from 1909 to 1922, while renting out the other side. Laase was born in Denmark in 1866 and came to the United States in 1878. He worked for several years as an engineer at an ice plant before becoming the head fireman for the U.S. Mint. Lizzie died in 1919, and Otto died three years later when he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle on West 27th Avenue.  After Otto's death, ownership passed to his cousin, Bertha Borrs, who had moved in with Otto after Lizzie's death in 1919. Bertha married Frank Creed, a saddle maker, in 1928. Frank died in 1955, and Bertha continued to live here until the 1960s.
