4687 Pennsylvania Street

Printer-friendly version

This brick bungalow was built in 1922 of second-hand materials. Records list no architect or builder, so it's possible it was built the house by its first owners, Frank and Mary Gizewski. Frank was born in 1888 in Cleveland to Polish immigrant parents. His family moved to Globeville around 1900. By 1910, Frank was working as a butcher and living across the street from 4687 Pennsylvania Street. Two years later, he married his landlord's daughter. By the time the Gizewskis were living at 4687 Pennsylvania Street, Frank had worked several construction jobs for B.F. Salzer Lumber Company and Lumber Dealer's Supply Company.

The Gizewskis had one daughter, Rose, born in 1912. In the mid-1940s, Rose married George J. Volosin, whose family lived next door to the Gizewskis. George worked at his family's grocery store. When George and Rose were married, they lived at 4687 Pennsylvania Street with her parents.

After Mary died in 1944 and Frank in 1958, the house passed to Rose and the Volosin family continued to live here.
