This duplex was built for William Kiefaber around 1910 and stayed with the family for roughly a century. Kiefaber purchased the land this was built on in 1899.
Kiefaber's parents owned and operated the Three-Mile House, just a few blocks away at East 48th Avenue and Gilpin Street. The Three-Mile House was a social hall used for Elyria town functions, dances, social gatherings. It also functioned as a temporary town hall and a courtroom. After William's parents died, he operated the Three-Mile House.
William married Anna Link in 1910 and the couple had two sons. In 1911, the family lived in the 4719 side of the duplex, renting out the 4721 side. In 1914, the Kiefabers lived at the Three-Mile House and rented out both sides of the duplex.
William died in 1917 and ownership of the duplex passed to his wife. When Anna died in 1951, ownership passed to their sons, Philip and William Boyd. Philip gained sole ownership in 1991 when his brother died.
