Andrew Lundee Scott House

Printer-friendly version

Andrew Lundee Scott and his wife, Alice May, built this home on the corner of 20th Avenue and Gaylord Street in 1912. Scott started in business by selling milk from the back of a wagon, then opened his first grocery in 1897 on 32nd and Gilpin. He moved the store to 31st and Williams in the early 1900s, where Scott’s Market still sells groceries to the neighborhood today.

The Scotts hired Frederick E. Mountjoy and Park W. French to design their home. Architects Mountjoy and French were a short-lived duo, only practicing together from 1912-1916. Mountjoy went on to design several historic Denver landmarks including St. Ignatius Loyola Church (23rd Ave and York Street), Ebert Elementary School (410 Park Avenue), and the Rocky Mountain Bank Note Building (1080 Delaware Street).
