Denver assessor records list the build date for 1235 Washington Street as 1926. While no building permit could be located for the property, a 1925 Denver Post article discusses its construction: “In the 1200 block on Washington street an apartment house … is being erected by the Brendle-Brent company for Samuel Schlinger (sic). It will cost $46,000 and will contain twenty-four apartments of the buffet type.” The article also states that G. Meredith Musick was the architect. It is noteworthy that 1235 Washington Street is nearly identical (with minor differences in brick detailing) to the Homewood Apartments constructed the year before at 1341 and 1351 Washington, and also designed by Musick. The building was originally known as the Arnold Apartments.
The building’s owner was actually Samuel L. Schlesinger, president of the Standard Furniture Company. Schlesinger and his wife, Goldie, had one son, Arnold.
