1210 E. 16th Avenue, originally known as “The Hillcrest,” was built in 1903 for Alfred S. Procter, founder and president of the Denver Tent & Awning Company. The building was designed by the architectural firm of Fisher & Huntington. A 1903 Denver Post article announced the construction of the "Hillcrest" at 1216 E. 16th Avenue. The article described the building as containing ten four and five-room flats, each with its own private entrance. Designers Fisher and Huntington are both noted Denver architects. The pair designed the National Register-listed Smith House at 1801 York Street as well as several homes in the Wyman Historic District. Owner Alfred Procter and his family lived at The Hillcrest until selling it in 1921.
