Jane Spikesman immigrated to the US from Ireland in 1878 with her Husband. A time when women had few rights, she became a widow and single mother of four girls but was able to commission the building of her home on the 700 block of S Lincoln street in 1898. In the 1920's she forged a path for herself in the political world of Denver. Her career started as a cleric for the secretary of state, and then in 1920, she held political power as the Asst. Superintendent for the Colorado Bureau of Free Employment.
