This substantial Jefferson Park house was built in 1909 for Angelo "Filippo" Onofrio and his family. Onofrio emigrated from Italy in 1888, first settling in Chicago where he learned the piano trade and met and married his wife Maria Rosa. After moving to Denver he continued to work in the piano business, selling and tuning pianos throughout the Rocky Mountain region. The large garage behind his residence, built in 1912, was likely used to store pianos. When he died in 1928, the Denver Post described Onofrio as “one of Denver’s wealthiest Italians and one of the most widely known music dealers in the west." The piano business founded by Onofrio grew into the Joe Onofrio Music Company (Joe was Angelo's oldest son), which operated until 2012.
