The Denver assessor’s website lists the build date for 1375-1377 Pearl Street as 1947. Although research did not reveal the original name of the apartment building, if it had one, it was known in about 1986 as the Monique Apartments. Today it is called Pearl Place. In 1945, Karl D. Wade, Nellie M. Wade, S.A. Anderson, Russell L. Hodge, and Glyde I. Hodge purchased the property. It was under their ownership that the apartment building was constructed. Although information on the Wades and Anderson is limited, a little can be found on the Hodges. According to Denver city directories, Russell Hodge, born in 1895 in Illinois, owned Hodge Motor Company in the 1930s and by 1945 owned Hodge Realty Company. The owners sold the apartment building shortly after it was constructed.
Eleanor J. Bliss purchased the property in 1948, the same year that she opened a real estate office in Denver. She owned the property for twenty-five years. She lived in the building until moving to Steamboat Springs where she founded the Steamboat Springs Council of the Arts and Humanities. In 1976 she was the recipient of the Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts.
