The former service station at 1975 E. Colfax Avenue was constructed between 1930 and 1937. As no building permit could be located, construction dates are based on Sanborn maps and the earliest mention of the address in the 1937 householder’s directory. The original address for this property was 1925 E. Colfax Avenue. The 1937 householder’s directory lists a filling station associated with the Powerine Company at this address.  The Powerine Company was founded in Denver in 1913.  A 1917 advertisement in the Denver Post claimed that Powerine was “the only gasoline made in Denver.”

In 1945, Powerine was purchased by the Carter Oil Company, and later evolved into the Enco brand.  By 1948, the station at 1975 E. Colfax was called Hiatt Service and was managed by C. Byron Hiatt, a former Powerine station manager. By 1953, the station was known as Tousley’s Service, managed by Gerald M. Tousley.  In 1967, the station was briefly named Bud’s Enco Service, then was known as Aladdin Enco Service beginning in the 1970s (in reference to the Aladdin theater that used to be located at 2010 East Colfax).

A comparison of Google “street view” images for the building from 2007 and 2011 show that the building underwent significant changes during that time.
